MARTINI ACTION ROOK RIFLE. Cal. 297/230 (Morris Long). S# 48611. Per Vol. 8 of "British Single Shot Rifles" Army & Navy first listed a .230 cartridge in 1884. A total of 70 rifles chamber for the .230 cartridge were sold by Army & Navy up until 1900." Rnd. 26" bbl. Blade front sight & 3 leaf rear sight. Greener style Martini action w/ geometric pattern engraving. Checkered walnut stock set w/ Micarta style schnabel tip & steel buttplate. CONDITION: barrel is fixed into action w/ green Locktite; balance of finish is good with peppery oxidation, scratches & muzzle wear. Action has traces of blue & case colored w/ balance brown patina with spots of oxidation. Wood has good appearing finish with dings, sm. gouges & worn areas of takedown pin. Good rifling with light frosting. PROVENANCE: Estate of Groves Herrick. (25-5716/MD). CURIO. $400-600.
