3’ x 4’ double applique embroidered on traditional army artillery red field, circa WW2-Korean War. Army antiaircraft units began with the rise of aircraft during WW1. More prominent mission profile was to deter enemy air attack particularly from aircraft carriers. Indeed, these units were among the first to fire when Japanese aircraft attacked the Philippines and Pearl Harbor.
There was a 159th Field Artillery Battalion associated with the 25th Infantry Division that was formed in 1942 with an all-black membership that would serve from WW2 through Korea and then disband in 1958, but no connection between this unit and the 159th Field Artillery Battalion has been found.
Condition: fine overall. (02-17547-37/JS). $600-800.
