A classic three bar form for a Germanic swept hilt rapier of the late 16th to early 17th century. The overall length of this fine sword is 47 1/2" and the blade length is 38 1/2". The plain blade has a single fuller extending 12 1/2" down from the base of the guard. There is an armorers mark on each side of the ricasso. S-shaped cross guard with triple loop guard and triple counterguard. Lineal decorated spherical pommel with wire wrapped grip terminated by Turk's head knots. CONDITION: blade has a lightly cleaned medium gray patina and the hilt generally shows light wear. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24764/BF). $2000-3000.
