A wonderful mix of African tribal masks of several forms and styles. 14 of the masks are carved wood with varying human features, some with encircling fringe emulating hair or a lion's mane. The remaining 3 masks appear to be made from shallow woven baskets with openings for the eyes and nose. The masks range in size from 18" to about 7". CONDITION: all of these items are made by the indigenous people of Africa and were likely used by them prior to being collected by Lewis Drake. All items show average use wear along with some storage wear. No major damage is noted. PROVENANCE: from the renowned collection of quality sporting arms from Lewis Drake together with inventory of Lewis Drake Associates. (02-23563-4/BF). $700-1,000.
