STOCK. Cal. 62. NSN. Bbl. 54". This amazing survivor has wonderful hand worn patina & initials & date carved in stock "RBI 1775 W". Brass mounted fowler w/ early oval wrist was broken & repaired w/ 2 braised iron bands: all w/ matching patina to rest of gun. Sock is cut back at muzzle for bayonet lug on bottom of bbl. There is a branded name in buttstock which consignor believes was soldier who served in the Connecticut line. This gun is thoughts to have characteristics of Connecticut maker Medad Hills from a well known family of Connecticut gun makers of the revolutionary war & earlier era. CONDITION: very good "as found". The Ketland tulip lock & bbl. have mostly smooth iron patina w/ pitting at breech. The iron band repair is so well done as is an iron headed nail or screw forward of lock taking place of long lost 2nd lock screw. Stock, other than the contemporary repair, is sound w/ hand worn patina w/ sm. well patinated reductions in crack toward muzzle. About 1" piece is missing on right side of forestock. Even the wooden ramrod appears original & very good. Lock spring good, but wont fall past half cock. Smooth, clear bore. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor. (01-20503/JS). ANTIQUE. $6,000-10,000.
