BUTTPLATE. Cal. 69. NSN. Bbl. 45 5/8" held to stock w/ 3 spring retained bands. Standard configuration. Rear portion of bbl. Is stamped w/ “P”, eagle head & “V”. Bbl. is reconverted from percussion. Second style lock w/ straight top spur & no curl to frizzen tail, along w/ removable rounded pan & feather spring w/ sm. leaf type finial. Lock is reconverted using new parts. “US” is over an eagle in front of cock. “SPRINGFIELD” is stamped diagonally across the plate & date “1806” is at rear. Walnut stock has a deeply fluted comb. Triggerguard has rounded finials. Buttplate has 1807 date on tang. Sling loops are missing. An old stamp behind triggerguard reads “MODEL 1795”. There is a sm. “US” stamp on the left side of butt. The letters “XW” (?) are behind the sideplate. CONDITION: good as refinished. Bbl. a smooth dark brown to black patina. Lock has pewter highlights from cleaning. Stock w/ old oil refinish has sharp edges somewhat rounded. There is wood missing at bottom rear of lock plate. Wood replaced from middle band to nose cap. Bbl. channel looks good w/ minor losses. Lock will not hold at full cock. (01-20133/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
