A suburb mix of African tribal masks of several forms and styles. All of the masks are carved wood with varying human features, some with encircling fringe emulating hair or a lion's mane. The masks vary in size between 15" and about 7 1/2". One of the larger masks is decorated with polychromatic paints and is quite visually appealing. This group also contains one wooden carving of a bent over man and one hide covered container. CONDITION: all of these items are made by the indigenous people of Africa and were likely used by them prior to being collected by Lewis Drake. All items show average use wear along with some storage wear. No major damage is noted. PROVENANCE: from the renowned collection of quality sporting arms from Lewis Drake together with inventory of Lewis Drake Associates. (02-23563-5/BF). $700-1,000.
