Cal. 69. S# NSN. Bbl. 44.5". Standard configuration of type I model 1795 (made 1799-1806), 59.5” overall, 44.5” barrel proofs barely seen due to pitting. Pointed tail lock, script “SPRINGFIELD in horizontal arc only seen 1802-1803, eagle over script “US”. Buttplate dated 1803. Battery with flat cock with heart shaped cutout, detachable faceted pan, faceted frizzen face with medial ridge & curved tail, frizzen spring terminates in fleur de les finial. High comb walnut stocked with 3 spring retained bands, pointed ended trigger guard. Old state markings branded in belly of stock. Only 4775 muskets were made in 1803. CONDITION: good overall, reconversion back to flint, pitted mottled iron patina, lock cocks, frizzen does not seal-weak spring, dark smooth bore. (01-22757/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
