Cal. 69. S# NSN. The 44-1/2" barrel with bayonet lug on bottom 2" back from muzzle is marked "US" "CT" (contract) under eagle in deep oval cartouche "V" at rear. Flint lock with flat slightly chamfered plate has teat at rear and has an integral rounded pan. Center of lock is stamped with a small eagle over "US" in an oval. Assembly number "2" is on all internal parts except springs and is also found at rear of lockplate and on cock and frizzen. Top jaw is stamped "0" (possible period replacement). Walnut stock is unmarked except for "V" proof on left side panel and is iron mounted with unmarked buttplate and sideplate. Trigger guard has spear finials and sling loop. Barrel is affixed with three spring retained bands. CONDITION: good to very good. Metal parts cleaned to pewter gray over lightly pitted surfaces. Stock has old refinish with some rounding of sharp edges and is sound except for 2" crack from front of sideplate up toward barrel. Tulip head ramrod is present. Dark pitted bore. Original flint configuration lock is mechanically good. (01-25574/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
