MUSKET & BAYONET. Cal. 69. NSN. Standard configuration of type II model 1812 (made 1815-1816), 57” overall, 42” barrel stamped top of breech “US” & proofed on left “P / eaglehead / V”. Flat beveled lock dated 1815, script “US” over eagle & “SPRINGFIELD in arc. Battery with rounded convex cock with heart shaped cutout, integral round bottom pan, frizzen spring terminates in teardrop shaped finial. Low comb walnut stocked with 3 spring retained bands covered except for studs by bands, buttplate dated “1815”. Bayonet has 14.5” blade inspected “JN” & “US”. These are scarce muskets made with new adopted design concurently with 1795 model with 1815 dates made 1st quarter of year. CONDITION: very good overall as reconversion to flint. Sling swivels later additions. Smooth iron patina, sharp lock markings. Stock is sound with hand worn patina, partially discernible inspection marks opposite lock and rear of trigger guard. Mechanics good, smoth dark bore. Bayonet fits musket well with same patina. (01-22771/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
