PERCUSSION. Cal. 70. NSN. Bbl. 42", stamped "LS" "US" & w/ "P" cartouche at rear, "1830" is on tang. Lock marked "W.L. EVENS", Eagle stamp & "V.FORGE" under pan & "1830" "US" on tail. Lock reconverted from percussion w/ old pan & cock. Frizzen is a casting. Unmarked American walnut stock attaches to bbl. w/ 3 spring retained bands. Mountings are iron, tang of buttplate stamped "US". Sling loops are present along w/ old button head ramrod. CONDITION: metal parts w/ dark brown patina. Wood w/ old surface possibly original. Repaired cracks are on both sides running from lock area forward & upward to bbl. channel. There are other shrinkage cracks around buttplate. Lock is operable. Pitted bore.
