MUSKET. Cal. 71. NSN. This musket conforms to other Harpers Ferry muskets made 1815-1819 w/ 57 1/4" overall, 41 7/8ths" rnd. bbl. w/ US & Eagle head cartouche at breech. Lock is marked w/ eagle over “US” under pan, "HARPERS / FERRY / 1817" at tail. Stock has script cartouche "V" over "JS" (James Stubblefield) & 2 stamped initials "AT". CONDITION: good overall, complete & original. Appears to be in original flint configuration. Metal has a dark, smooth iron patina, but is bright in protected areas such as under bbl. bands, pitted in areas such as breech & top of buttplate. Ramrod appears original, though shortened to just over 39" w/ no threading. Stock is sound, cartouche is barely discernible. Mechanically functional w/ clear smooth bore. (01-17453/JS).
