"As found" in North Carolina Springfield model 1842, initials carved in stock like found on so many Confederate associated longarms, hammer is altered flat faced & un-knurled spur, 42" barrel, barrel proofs not discernible, "SPRING / FIELD / 1853" rear of hammer & stamped with eagle over "U.S.". CONDITION: good overall. Uncleaned and "as found" iron patina, sling swivels removed in period of use, Stock is sound, scuffed, "PB" and "A*" carved, single cartouche visible. Mechanics good & smooth dark bore. (01-27834/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
