SCABBARD. Standard Civil war model 1860 light cavalry saber w/ 35 1/2" blade marked on ricasso w/ a single cryptic character of unknown manufacture. Housed in brass mounted lap seam Confederate scabbard, no doubt contract by Louis Froelich at his Confederate States Armory at Kenansville, North Carolina. CONDITION: good to very good overall. Hilt has old polish & varnish giving varnished areas a gilded look. Grip retains 90% of its original leather wrap & complete twisted wire. Blade is overall gray w/ areas of staining & rust. Scabbard is sound & complete w/ several dents. Thin iron blade drag shows wear. Brass mts. & throat have medium mustard patina. Throat is missing 1 of its pewter pins. Scabbard overall iron patina w/ remnants of original black surface. (02-13604/JS). $1,500-2,000.
