BAYONET. Cal. 577, NSN. Standard configuration of the most common Confederate used longarm during the Civil War, 39" barrel, long range rear sight, "25" gauge markings signifying .577 caliber. "1862 / Tower" marked lock, 3 iron barrel bands, walnut stock and brass furniture. "J. BOURNE" stamped on belly of butt stock, probably stock contractor, no other markings in wood are easily discerned. CONDITION: very good overall, complete and original, missing front sling swivel, rear sling swivel has replaced screw, accompanying bayonet is for US Springfield, nipple protector with brass chain is good. Mechanically functional, barrel has been bored out to smooth bore. PROVENANCE: from the Lifelong Collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker. (01-24935/JS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
