RESEMBLE THE RARE 1881 MARKSMAN RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 1881. Bbl. 26” mounted w/ standard 1873 rear sight & has folding Beech front dovetailed through. 1873 Action is so marked on breech block. Rear portion is engraved “1881” in place of S#. "Springfield" & eagle marked lock & other major parts including action, trigger guard bow & buttplate are engraved w/ open scroll resembling engraving found on the Officers model. Crotch figured American walnut pistol grip stock has schnabeled tip. Poorly cut checkering is at grip & forend. Cast folding tang sight is at top of grip. Brass tag stamped “12” “C” “23” is affixed under tang screw. CONDITION: good, as rebuilt. Most original blue remains on bbl. Areas w/ engraving have been cleaned & reblued. Stock retains most of its original finish. Bore is fair, somewhat pitted. (01-17390/MGM95). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
