21 3/4" x 17 1/4” Plus borders on laid paper. The map is titled: “A NEW MAP OF NORTH AMERICA”. Map shows the Atlantic coast showing numerous ports, but little detail inland where various Indian tribes are listed. Recognizable cities pre-Revolutionary War include Boston, N. York, Philadelphia, Williamsburg, Charles T., Savannah. Three dates seen on map: on the border of Florida above Cape Canaveral “Bounds of Carolina by Charter, 1665”, Border line between the Carolinas “SUBJECT TO ENGLISH EVER SINCE 1729”, Near the Cumberland river “Walkers Eng. Sett. 1750”. Map is more detailed in the Northeast w/ notable French and Indian War & Revolutionary War forts & hand marks. CONDITION: appears very good overall, but not removed from frame. Folds, sm. water stains. lower right edge about 12" of border cut away, not affecting any topography. PROVENANCE: Collection of John Montague. (02-16573/JS). $600-800.
