Cal. 45 ACP. S# 40664. Mfg. 1913 for the U.S. Navy from S# range 38,001-43,800. This pistol was 1 of 5,800 shipped to the U.S. Navy Yard in Brooklyn, NY between July to August 1913 for routine Navy distribution. Based on "U.S. Pistols & Revolvers 1909-1945" by J.C. Harrison, has mix of correct & incorrect parts. Correct features include: Colt 5" Type 3 barrel with "J" on left lug, Type A front & rear sights, Type B hammer, Type A slide lock, Type 1 Mainspring housing & type 2 pin, Type C mag. release lock, Type 3 recoil spring plug, Type B hammer, & "WGP" proof on frame. Incorrect features include: Type B safety tab & Type B recoil spring guide. MAGS: 1 "R" marked 7 rd.; balance of finish is gray/brown patina with stain spots. CONDITION: Slide has approx. 10% original blue finish with large sections of cleaned pitting & corrosion with balance of slide having gray patina appearance. Approx. 30% original blue finish on frame with large areas of cleaned brown patina appearance under grips with worn gray patina appearance on bottom surfaces of frame, front strap & mainspring housing. Right panel has good appearance with left panel having heavily worn appearance. Barrel has over 50% original blue with cycling wear throughout. Bore shows strong rifling with light pitting throughout. (25-3453/MD). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
