BELONGING TO ROBERT R. CORNETT OF THE US NAVY. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 870277. Pistol is of the 1943 configuration within S# range 857,000-1,609-529 having a Parkerized finish. It appears to have the correct parts, including a 5" blued Colt Type 6 bbl. and Type 7 Colt wood grips. MAGS: NONE. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: this fine pistol is accompanied by its original WWII brown leather holster with brass snap-on retention. The accessories further include Cornett's 1943 dog tag, his web belt with attached canteen and cover, his "U.S.N."-marked Mark 1 side knife by PAL with its original sheath, his 1940 yearbook from the Mustangs of Clifton High School, Clifton, NJ, and finally his birth certificate. CONDITION: good, original, Parkerized finish, showing over 80% coverage with cycling and edge wear, along with spots of pitting on the forward portions of the slide and frame. Frame has light wear and scratches in the takedown area on the left. Very good grips with a few chipped diamonds. Bbl. shows good blue with cycling wear; bore is good with strong rifling and light pitting around the muzzle. Holster is intact but shows heavy wear, with verdigris and an outline of a previous stud through the embossed "US" on the body. Belt, canteen, and knife show light overall wear. Dog tag has an oxidized finish. Yearbook is well used but still complete and reasonably solid. (24-6434/MD/BF). CURIO. $1,400-1,800.
