SURVIVAL KNIFE WITH SHEATH. Originally developed by Qual-A-Tec & Buck for US Navy Seals, approx. 13,008 were produced between July 1985 - Sept. 1985. Overall: 12 3/4". The blade is 7/34" long, made of 425M Steel, having a thickness of .29" & hardness of 57 plus RC scale. The right ricasso is marked "BUCK / 184 / U.S.A. / Pat's Pending". The blade has teeth on tip & spine designed for cutting meat, wood, rope & underwater fabric. The knife has a Media bead blasted finish. Stainless steel quillon & crossguard w/ 2 threaded anchor pins; rated for 275 lbs. & designed to be used an emergency anchor, secure line for gear, & Zodiac vessels. The stainless steel handle is knurled & hollow designed for water proof storage. Stainless steel knurled pommel. Buck Thermoplastic GripTite sheath w/ sharpening stone & nylon web gear. Nylon pouches contain Silva Type 12 compass w/ red lanyard & emergency matches kit. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copies pages from "BUCKMASTER KNIVES / THE AUTHORIZED HISTORY OF MODELS 184 & 185" by Richard Neyman. CONDITION: knife in very good to near excellent appearance showing wear from sheath contact. Sheath very good w/ light wear. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox.
