Cal. 35. S# 4085 / 704. This was a popular military arm more in the South than in the North, especially in 35 cal. Howard Madaus in his article "The Maynard Rifle & Carbine in the Confederate Service" (ASAC Bulletin 52, pages 66-79) state that "as many as 2000-2600 1st Model carbines were purchased by the states of Mississippi, Georgia & Florida". He also notes that archeological evidence shows that Maynards issued to Florida troops along the Applachicola River were using 35 cal. cartridges. This gun confirms to other 1st model carbines, iron mounted, tape primer system, patent information & manufacturer stamped on either side of frame, 20" 2 stage bbl. w/ fixed rear sight, front blade sight & adj. long rare rear sight. CONDITION: very good overall. Bbl. has been cleaned & is gray/bright w/ pitting. Frame is gray w/ good markings. Maynard tape door may be replaced as it's S# 704 is different than rest of gun.
