1) BELT KNIFE. Overall length: 21". Blade length: 14 1/4". A rather lg. belt knife having a blade w/ a raised medial ridge. Brass crossguard w/ downturned disk terminals. Brass ferrule & pommel cap. Reeded wood grip. Brass mounted leather scabbard w/ incised design. Throat has a frog stud on 1 side & the other is engraved, “Capt. G.C. Hughes Jackson TN”. The knife has significant age but we cannot guarantee the age of the inscription. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, mottled patina. Brass shows a pleasing mustard patina. Grip shows expected wear. Scabbard body is flaked but remains quite strong.
2) BELT KNIFE. Overall length: 15 1/8". Blade length: 9 3/4". Plain, flat blade. German silver guard, ferrule & pommel. Wood grip w/ mini tack decoration. Center of grip has an elliptical plaque w/ the name, “Henry Wilkes” engraved on it. Top of pommel is engraved, “TEXAS (star) 1836”. This appears to be an original knife & the name on the grip appears to be original to the knife. The age of the engraving on the pommel cannot be guaranteed. CONDITION: blade shows a cleaned, medium gray peppery finish. Hilt shows light overall wear.
3) DIARY. An 1864 pocket diary w/ stencil identification on the inside cover that reads, “Geo. B. Abbott, Stewartstown, N.H”. Diary shows entries from Jan. 1, 1864 to Sept. 15, 1864 when entries ceased. Not all days have been filled but his handwriting is generally legible. There is a relic Confederate $20 bank note in the diary. CONDITION: diary is fairly solid although it shows notable wear. Pages are easily read. Bank note is in poor condition.
