This cartridge is different than modern loads as it's internally primed. This box measures approx. 3 1/4" x 1 3/5" x 1 1/8" & marked on front "12 Cartridges, / for / Colt's Revolver, Cal; .45 / Powder, 30 grains, Bullet, 250 grains. / FRANKFORD ARSENAL. / June, 1874". 2) 7 Rounds of 1878 dated Frankford Arsenal .45 Revolver Ball cartridges. The US Army, in 1875, gave a contract to Smith & Wesson for their 1875 Schofield Model 3 revolvers as an alternative to the Colt SAA. However, these Schofield revolvers were chambered in the 45 S&W Schofield cartridge, which is approx. 0.2" shorter than 45 Colt.
