SUB-GAUGE TUBES. 1) SHOTGUN WITH 28 GA. SUB-GAUGE INSERT TUBES. Cal. 28 Ga., 2 3/4". (originally 16 Ga. proofed for "17" bore). S# 45. London Laminated Steel 29.5" barrels w/ brass bead. Both barrels have 28 Gauge sub-gauge insert tubes installed; tight fit makes disassembly difficult to identify maker. Water tables have pre 1875 Birmingham proofs. Sprays of acanthus scroll engraving are adorned on locks & receiver. Action has double triggers, floating firing pins & extractors. Walnut stock set. Splinter forearm with ebony tip & friction lock. Round knob pistol grip buttstock w/ brass shield toeplate name plate. Stock has been cut, LOP of 14 1/4" to thick black pad. CONDITION: metal has gray/brown patina appearance with numerous scratches & marks. Heavily sanded & refinished wood shows epoxy repair to toe of stock along with numerous marks & small gouges; scattered sm. cracks. Bores of sub-gauge tubes are shiny with light residue; unable to verify original bore condition. (01-28288/MD). 2) SHOTGUN WITH 20 GA. SUB-GAUGE INSERT TUBES. Cal. 20 Ga., 2 3/4" (Originally 12 Ga., "13" proofed). S# 42051. Damascus steel 30" barrels have brass bead & doll's head extension. Water tables have pre-1887 Birmingham proofs. Barrels fitted with 20 Gauge sub-gauge insert tubes. Action & locks have wheat chaffe engraving along with fowl on locks. Action has double triggers & extractors. Walnut stock set. Splinter forearm has horn tip & matching numbered iron. Long tang pistol grip stock has horn scalloped grip cap. & brass oval toeline name plate. LOP: 13 7/8" to hard rubber buttplate with woodland scene. CONDITION: metal has brown/gray patina appearance with scratches, marks & sm. dents. Middle brass bead on rib has been filed to almost flat. Sanded & refinished wood has smoothened checkering, chip of forearm tip, numerous handling marks & scattered large cracks. Sub gauge tubes have bright shiny bores with light residue. Original left barrel has 2 bulges towards muzzle. (01-28289/MD). ALL ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
