1) ZOUAVE. A very interesting large Civil War era pipe measuring 16” in length with a twig stem mounted with a horn mouthpiece. The massive bowl has an ancient patina and is carved in the shape of a Zouave soldier’s head. The bearded and mustached gentleman is wearing a typical Zouave cap with a tassel at the end. He sports a grave expression with piercing eyes. CONDITION: the inner bowl is quite charred and was obviously used for a long period of time. The remainder of the pipe shows honest wear with expected patina. 2) ZOUAVE. A light-colored pipe bowl somewhat in the manner of Meerschaum depicting the head of a Zouave soldier. This soldier not only has a beard and mustache, but haunting glass eyes. He wears a typical Zouave-style hat with a large tassel at the back. As the pipe bowl approaches the stem (now missing), there is a repousse silver ferrule. CONDITION: bowl shows great age and wear with intense charring of the bowl. Outer material has expected wear and patina. (02-22834/BF). $700-1,000.
