1) M1840 LIGHT ARTILLERY SABER. Overall length: 38 1/4". Blade length: 31 1/2". Plain single fullered blade stamped at the ricasso, “EMERSON & SILVER TRENTON N.J” on 1 side & “N.J 1863” on the other. The “N.J” stamp indicates issuance by the state of New Jersey. Brass hilt. Wire wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina w/ a few widely scattered oxidation spots. Hilt has a pleasant mustard patina. Grip shows some wear & scuffing. Wire is complete. Scabbard has an overall dark patina w/ a few areas of cleaned pitting. 2) M1832 ARTILLERY SHORT SWORD. Overall length: 26”. Blade length: 19”. Plain blade w/ a long central fuller topped by 2 shorter fullers. Blade is marked near the ricasso, “AMES MFG CO CHICOPEE” on 1 side & “US ADK 1855” on the other. Solid brass hilt. Cross guard is stamped, “A.D.K.” & “RHK.W(in script)”. Fish scale style grip w/ 3 iron rivets on each side. Pommel impressed w/ American eagle on both sides. Brass mounted leather scabbard w/ black buff leather frog & partial belt. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina w/ evidence of cleaning. Hilt has a mellow mustard patina. Scabbard mounts have a similar mustard patina & scabbard body remains remarkably solid. Frog & partial belt show moderate wear. (02-14195/BF). $1,200-1,500.
