DERRINGERS. Non-functional examples without serial numbers as they were manufactured being incapable of operation. Made by Butler Associates of New Haven, CT who also made operable examples with the Colt name from 1959-1976 and then until early 1980's with the Butler name. All firing examples had serial numbers. Due to cowboy themes and extreme popularity of the little derringers, non firing examples were produced for decorative purposes. Decorative models used parts of the firing models to include 2 1/2" barrels marked "22 Short"; they were permanently rendered inoperable so that the barrel could not open nor be removed even with all screws, trigger and hammer removed. The material used for manufacture was called Zamak. Even though they all had rifled bores, barrel life was short if fired due to the soft alloy. Many finishes and styles of grips were offered. Some sold singularly, but most commonly in decorative sets; cased in books, jewelry style boxes, bookends, wall displays, etc. These are gold plated with simulated pearl grips. CONDITION: good with majority of finish intact having occasional spots of oxidation mixed with light handling marks; one grip has large chip at butt. (02-23618/NW). $250-350.
