1) M1796 BRITISH LIGHT DRAGOON SABER. Overall length: 38 1/4". Blade length: 32 1/8". Plain, single wide fullered blade w/ an etched maker's mark at the ricasso that reads "PARKER FIELD & SON 233 HOLBORN LONDON". Iron hilt. Leather covered wood grip w/ vestiges of red paint. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray cleaned finish & shows some evidence of light sharpening. Hilt is a bit misshaped & has heavy oxidation & pitting. Grip is quite dry & cracked w/ a roughened finish likely from scraping red paint from the grip. Scabbard has a dark oxidized patina w/ pitting & shallow dents particularly near the tip. (02-13370/BF). 2) M1796 BRITISH LIGHT DRAGOON SABER. Overall length: 39 7/8". Blade length: 33 1/4". Single wide fullered blade is etched over 1/3 of its length w/ various motifs including a crowned "GR", charging dragoon & crowned British arms. Blade is etched near the ricasso w/ a ribbon that reads "R.B. COOPER". Iron hilt w/ spade shaped languet engraved "16 LD". Wire wrapped leather covered wood grip w/ sm. rudimentary ears emanating from the backstrap. Iron scabbard engraved on 1 side "16 LD". The other side has an engraved maker's mark that is illegible. The 16th Light Dragoons had a significant history in the British Army including extensive service against the French during the Napoleonic Wars culminating w/ service at Waterloo. CONDITION: blade has a heavily cleaned light gray finish showing areas of cleaned light pitting. Etching is a bit worn but is easily legible & discernible. Hilt has a dark patina. Grip is nearly complete w/ very minor losses to the leather. Scabbard is undamaged & has an overall dark patina w/ heavier pitting on the reverse. (02-13373/BF). $800-1,200.
