1) M1771 FRENCH ARTILLERY SHORT SWORD WITH SLING. Overall length: 25". Blade length: 19". Plain blade features a 3 1/2" dbl. fuller near the hilt & a 10 3/4" fuller towards the tip. Solid brass hilt w/ eagle head grip & pommel. 3 Iron rivets along w/ iron bars on each side of the grip. Scabbard is brass mounted leather. Sling is white buff w/ a brass adjustment buckle & brass keeper buckle. Sling has illegible writing in ink on the inside along w/ several sets of stamped numbers. This M1771 likely dates to the early 1800s. CONDITION: blade has a dark finish. Grip shows light to moderate wear. Scabbard is a bit flaked but remains substantially solid. Sling is complete but a bit stiff & shows moderate staining. (02-13381/BF). 2) 19TH CENTURY FRENCH INFANTRY SAPPERS SABER. Overall length: 35". Blade length: 28 1/2". Plain blade w/ a single wide fuller. Solid heavy brass hilt w/ lioness terminals on the crossguard & a lion head in a rectangle near the ricasso. Smooth brass grip w/ eagle head pommel. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray mottled finish w/ scattered areas of light oxidation. Hilt has a mellow patina & shows light wear overall. (02-13388/BF). $1,000-1,400.
