1) A large iron bear trap with 16" tooth jaws and springs measuring over 16" in length. The circular pad is embossed "AMERICAN FUR TRADE COMPANY" around the edge and "HBC No.6" in the center. There is an exceptionally heavy chain attached with a ring at the end that measures 31" in length. CONDITION: the trap is very solid with no losses or meaningful oxidation. The iron, of course, has a rusted patina that creates a rustic visage that should be cleaned if the trap was going to be used. 2) A large iron bear trap with 12" tooth jaws and springs measuring over 12" in length. The circular pad is unmarked. The chain linkage assembly is present but no chain is attached. Due to the crudity of manufacture it is likely this is a blacksmith made trap. CONDITION: this trap is quite solid with a dark patina throughout all the iron pieces. The trap has not been tested but it appears like it would function perfectly. PROVENANCE: from the renowned collection of quality sporting arms from Lewis Drake together with inventory of Lewis Drake Associates. (02-23615/BF). $1,000-2,000.
