1) EARLY NAVAL DIRK. Overall length: 20 1/4". Blade length: 14”. Plain blade w/ a pronounced medial ridge. Gilded brass crossguard, ferrule & pommel cap. Ebonized wood grip. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, very lightly pitted, cleaned finish. Crossguard, ferrule & pommel show traces of original gilt remaining. Grip has a few very minor losses to the high points of the ridges. Scabbard mounts show traces of original gilding. Leather is flaked & a bit flexed, but remains relatively solid & unbroken. (02-13569/BF). 2) EARLY NAVAL DIRK. Overall length: 12 3/8”. Blade length: 8 1/2”. Blade is etched throughout its length w/ various military & foliate motifs. There is a central fuller extending nearly 5” up from the hilt. Gilded brass crossguard & ferrule. Crossguard features well articulated oak leaves & acorns. Turned “certifiably antique ivory” grip. Gilded brass scabbard has intricate engraving, including a spray of arms, on 1 side. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina. Crossguard & ferrule retain much of their original gilding. Guard is a bit loose. Grip has a lg. age crack. Ivory screw on pommel cap is missing. Scabbard is undamaged w/ vivid engraving & retains 30% of its original gilding. (02-13570/BF). 3) HEAVY LEATHER HAT. Hat measures approx. 12” x 11”. It is made of thick leather & has a leather interior liner secured w/ iron lining straps. Hats like this example often saw use on naval vessels. They were generally used for head protection while boarding enemy vessels. Similar examples saw use as early firemen’s hats & miner’s hats. CONDITION: hat has an ancient appearance. It has a sm. 1” loss on the brim & a 4” separation between the brim & the crown on 1 side. (02-13571/BF). $900-1,300.
