1) ITALIAN HALBERD. Overall length: 39". Length of head: 13". Width: 6 3/4". An early European, likely Italian, halberd on a partial original haft. Head has a spear point w/ ornately decorated & pierced "blade". Socket is square & attaches to haft w/ 2 iron rivets. Partial haft appears to be oak & has brass tack decoration. There is a braided yellow & gold bullion collar & tassel at the base of the head. CONDITION: head has a dark, oxidized patina. Haft is broken 26" below the head. Tassel & collar show wear, dirt & tarnish. (02-13403/BF). 2) EARLY POLEARM HEAD. Overall length: 23 3/4". Width: 3 1/8". An excavated, very early polearm head resembling what was called an ox tongue spear likely dating from the late 15th century to the early 17th century. Blade has a substantial raised central medial ridge on 1 side w/ a socket below. CONDITION: this excavated polearm shows a dark patina w/ heavy pitting & minor losses to the edge. The socket appears to have been hammered closed to form a handle for possible use in cutting brush, grains or other crops by an early farmer. (02-13405/BF). $700-1,200.
