These 2 knives have an early appearance but both are reproductions put together from original parts.
1) BOWIE. This knife measures 12 7/8" in length. It has etching that features an eagle with "A CALIFORNIAN ASK FOR NOTHING BUT WHAT IS RIGHT AND SUBMIT TO NOTHING THAT IS WRONG I CAN DIG GOLD FROM QUARTZ CALIFORNIAN BOWIE KNIFE". There is an apocryphal stamp at the ricasso that reads "TIFFANY. BROADWAY. NEW YORK. U.S.A." Early German silver crossguard, pommel & ferrule with certifiably antique ivory grip. No sheath. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina. Grip has 3 notable tight age cracks.
2) BOWIE. Overall length 11 3/8". Blade stamped at the spine "G.WOSTENHOLM & SON WASHINGTON WORKS SHEFFIELD, ENG:". The ricasso is marked "I * XL". German silver ferrule. 1 Piece wood hilt with crosshatch grip. No sheath. CONDITION: blade shows light wear overall as does the grip. The blade has been set into the grip and secured by red epoxy. (02-17817/BF). $250-450.
