1) BRITISH. Overall length: 35”. Blade length: 28 1/4". This sword is of a style that would have been prevalent in the early 1700s. It has a solid silver hilt that bears British hallmarks and a blade of the Colichemarde style. The blade has etching over the first 7 1/2" and is marked on the ricasso with 2 eagles on one side and “WILKINSON SWORD LONDON” on the other. The heavy smallsword style hilt has a boat guard with shallow pas d’ane. Twisted knuckle bow & spherical pommel. Wire-wrapped grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows original factory polish. Hilt is lightly tarnished. 2) EUROPEAN. Overall length: 34”. Blade length: 27”. This sword is of a style seen during the Napoleonic period. The blade has blue & gold decoration over the first 9”. Engraving includes foliate & classical military motifs. The heavily gilded hilt depicts a horse’s head on the languets and a large crowned eagle with lion head quillons on the cruciform style guard. The large lozenge pommel has attractive foliate motifs. The grip shows Minerva standing with sword & shield on one side and a Greek warrior head on the other side. No scabbard. CONDITION: very light wear with minor loss of bluing only. (02-21311-1/BF). $400-600.
