1) Overall length: 38 3/4". Blade length: 27 1/4". Blade has a straight hamon with a brass habaki. The nakago has a single mekugi-ana with a 5-character signature on one side and a 2-character signature on the other. The blade is mounted in a traditional sayajiri with numerous Japanese characters in black ink. The sayajiri also has the name "C.F. STERNER" written on the top flat, likely by the soldier that captured the blade. CONDITION: blade has a good polish but is a bit dirty. The sayajiri is split at the seam and has a small loss near the throat. 2) Overall length: 38 1/2". Blade length: 24 1/8". Blade has a straight hamon with a gilded copper habaki. Iron tsuba with an inlaid copper water buffalo and inlaid gold grass. The tsuba has a single seppa above and below. The nakago has two mekugi-ana, indicating an ancestral blade. One side of the nakago has a 9-character signature. The tsuka has a beautiful matching fuchi and kashira featuring gold-inlaid lobsters. The black tsuka-ito is broken and mostly missing. The same is intact on both sides, but there are no menuki. There is a cotton cloth tied to the tsuka embellished with Japanese characters, likely identifying the owner of the sword. Black enameled wooden saya. CONDITION: blade has a wonderful polish and is exceptionally sharp. The tsuka is in poor condition but does have a stunning fuchi and kashira. Saya shows light overall wear. (02-22917-4/BF). $800-1,200.
