The model 1913 cavalry sword was designed by General George S. Patton & is commonly referred to as the “Patton sword”. It represents a technological leap forward concentrating on the thrusting power of cavalry rather than the hacking power. 1) Overall length: 44”. Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1913” & “US2939” on the other. The number “30” is stamped upside down above the “US”. There is a leather knot attached to the guard. Sheet steel guard. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. Iron mounted canvas covered scabbard w/ peg. CONDITION: blade has a dull medium gray patina w/ a couple noticeable nicks to the edge. Hilt has areas of old oxidation. Grips are badly worn & 1 is cracked. Scabbard shows average wear. 2) Overall length: 44”. Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1913” & “US1689” on the other. Sheet steel guard. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. Iron mounted canvas covered scabbard w/ peg. CONDITION: blade has been heavily cleaned & shows evidence of overall light pitting. Hilt shows light wear. Scabbard shows light overall wear. (02-13646(2)/BF). $1,400-1,900.
