1) A mid-19th century French manufactured sextant in its original wooden case. The sextant’s label reads, in part, “MAISON DE CONFIANCE RAILLARD Opticien-Fabricant a Breast”. There is a later label from a Boston company advertising as an adjuster of compasses and repairer of all scientific instruments. The sextant itself appears to be primarily brass, ebony & inlaid certifiably antique ivory. CONDITION: the sextant appears fully functional but has not been tested. All mirrors and adjustments are complete & undamaged. The case is solid, but one hinge has been relocated. 2) A Japanese sextant, likely of the WWII period, manufactured by “TAMAYA & CO LTD GINZA TOKYO”. The sextant is housed in a large wooden case with two labels containing many Japanese characters. The outside of the box has an attached metal plate with a serial number and Japanese characters. The sextant appears to be cast aluminum with bakelite handles. CONDITION: the sextant itself shows light wear and appears to be fully functional, but its operation has not been tested. The box shows light wear overall. (02-21068/BF). $600-800.
