1) Overall length: 40 1/2". Blade length: 34 1/4". The blade has a single narrow fuller and is etched over 12” of its length. Etching includes numerous foliate motifs with a Mexican eagle on shield. Silvered hilt has a pierced guard with a large disc bearing the Mexican eagle. Plain knuckle bow leads into an eagle head pommel with feather extending down the backstrap. White sharkskin grip with wire wrapping. Iron scabbard that is incorrect for this sword. The sword blade is longer than the scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray, cleaned patina. Hilt shows some original plating over brass. Grip is intact. Scabbard has a mottled gray patina. 2) Overall length: 39”. Blade length: 33 1/2". The blade appears to be from an earlier sword that has been re-hilted on a rather crude brass hilt. The blade is etched over 10 1/2" of its length and is engraved in the fuller, on one side, “xxx NO . ME . ENBAINES . SIN . HONOR xxxx” & “xxx NO . ME . SATVES . SIN . RASON xxxxx”. Brass hilt is rather crudely cast with a 3-branch guard on one side and a single branch on the other that have been riveted to the guard and knuckle bow. Turned wood grip with similarly shaped brass pommel cap at the top. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, mottled patina. Hilt is lightly misshaped, and the grip is loose.
