1) US M1840 MUSICIAN’S SWORD. Overall length: 34 3/4". Blade length: 28 1/4". Ricasso is stamped on one side “Made by AMES MFG. CO. CHICOPEE. MASS” on one side and “US A.D.K 1864” on the other. Solid brass hilt with plain guard, knuckle bow, and globular pommel. Brass simulated wire-wrapped grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina with very light staining. Hilt has a pleasing overall patina. 2) US M1860 STAFF & FIELD OFFICER’S SWORD. Overall length: 38 5/8”. Blade length: 30”. This post-Civil War example has a plain blade that is diamond in cross section. Gilded brass hilt of standard form. Wire-wrapped, simulated sharkskin grip. Gilded brass-mounted plated scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, mottled patina. Hilt retains slight traces of original gilding and shows wear to details. Scabbard mounts show no original gilding and the plated surface of the body is lightly oxidized. (02-21258/BF). $300-400.
