1) A US M1841 rifle bayonet. This exceptionally long bayonet measures 30 1/4" overall with a 25 1/4" blade. It generally adheres to the contract of 1861 with Remington for altering the M1841 rifle to 58 cal. and adding sword bayonets. This bayonet is numbered on the flat "5835" and, interestingly, the blade appears to be dated 1861. CONDITION: the blade has a dark patina, as does the solid brass hilt. This bayonet may have been an early battlefield pickup or perhaps a barn find. It does have a heavy patina but no heavy oxidation. 2) A scarce Colt revolving rifle bayonet that appears to be excavated. The overall length of this example is 28 1/2" with a blade length of 23 3/4". These bayonets were manufactured by Schnitzler & Kirschbaum of Solingen, Germany. No markings can be seen on the blade because of oxidation, but the number on the top of the pommel is "3814." CONDITION: this bayonet does appear to be excavated as it has heavy oxidation to the blade as well as the iron guard, spring, and central rivet. The grip and pommel have a dark, mellow mustard patina. 3) A saber bayonet scabbard possibly for a P1853 Enfield rifle. The scabbard measures 23 7/8" with an iron throat and tip. The throat has a frog stud 2" down from the top. Leather scabbard body. CONDITION: the leather body has scuff and scrapes but is substantially solid. The iron has a dark patina. (02-23398-1/BF). $400-600.
