1) Model 1905. This "US" marked bayonet carries a patent date of 1907 & was introduced in 1908. 10" single edged blade; steel cross guard; smooth walnut grips retained by two screws. Knife is marked on right side of pommel "ROSS RIFLE CO. QUEBEC PATENTED 1907". Markings include left side of pommel w/ "encircled arrow", "08" & "4-10". Right grip has transversely stamped "U.S." & "flaming bomb". Leather scabbard w/ steel throat marked on front "US" & "flaming bomb". Marked at rear of tip "MKI" & dated "1915". CONDITION: bright blade w/ light staining & peppery appearance; balance of metal has worn original finish w/ handling marks. Grips have moderate wear, dents & scratches leaving legible markings. Leather scabbard has considerable overall wear w/ scuffing & areas of missing stitching. 2) Model MKII w/ 10" single edged blade. Bayonet modified during WWI & given a sharper point. The cross guard was simplified compared to 1905 model. Markings include right side of pommel, "ROSS RIFLE CO. QUEBEC PATENTED 1907". Left side of pommel has "encircled arrow" "dated 12/15". Smooth walnut grips. Scabbard is not present. CONDITION: metal has been given arsenal rework, blue finish over wear & light pitting. (02-16813-11/RW). $200-400.
