1) NCO. Overall length: 38". Blade length: 27 7/8". Blade has no perceptible hamon but does show a full-length hi and a serial number near the habaki that reads "46840". Brass habaki with reasonably plain brass tsuba having integral seppa on both sides. Fuchi is marked to the Kokura Arsenal. All metal tsuka with integral kabuto-gane with original sarute. Tsuka has a brown-painted, simulated tsuka-ito and shows a simulated three cherry blossom menuki on each side. Iron saya with a single carrying ring. CONDITION: blade has a decent polish but could use a cleaning. Tsuka shows expected wear. Saya has an overall dark patina. 2) OFFICER. Overall length: 40". Blade length: 26 7/8". Blade shows an irregular, wavy hamon and terminates with a brass habaki. There are four seppa above and below the gilded brass, four-cherry blossom tsuba. Matching fuchi and kabuto-gane with a dull brown/green tsuka-ito. White same and gilded, three-cherry blossom menuki. Nakago has a single mekugi-ana and has a 7-character signature on one side with a 5-character signature on the other. There are also three Japanese characters in green paint on the nakago. CONDITION: blade appears to have a decent polish but is quite dirty and caked with dried grease. Tsuka shows light wear, but the same has shrunk some. Saya shows light to moderate wear overall with some oxidation on the field green painted body. (02-23218-1/BF). $700-1,100.
