1) KATANA. Overall length: 36”. Blade length: 26 3/8”. Unfortunately, the blade has been chrome-plated, and no hamon is apparent. Copper habaki with a standard brass 4-cherry blossom tsuba and one lower seppa. The nakago appears unsigned and has a single mekugi-ana. The tsuka has a matching brass fuchi and kabuto-gane. Tan tsuka-ito with white same beneath. Each side has three cherry blossom menuki. No saya. CONDITION: overall, this katana is quite rough, with several nicks to the cutting ha, and the plating has likely damaged the metal beneath. The tsuka shows overall moderate to heavy wear, and the kabuto-gane appears buffed. 2) ARMY DRESS SABER. Overall length: 35 1/2". Blade length: 29”. Plain blade with a simulated irregular hamon. Gilded brass hilt with a 10-petal cherry blossom on the backstrap. Wire-wrapped composite grip. Plated scabbard. CONDITION: blade is surprisingly nice, with a vivid hamon. Hilt shows light wear overall, with substantial gold plating remaining. Scabbard shows moderate wear with some oxidation. (02-22800-2/BF). $350-550.
