1) WEYERSBERG. A fine Army officer’s sword measuring 40 7/8” in length with a 33” blade. Blade is etched over nearly half its length with various military & foliate motifs. The ricasso is stamped “PAUL WEYERSBERG & CO (logo) SOLINGEN”. Gilded brass hilt with German eagle & party symbol on the guard. Foliate embellished cross guard, quillon & knuckle bow. Bird’s head pommel, ferrule & backstrap all have an oak leaf motif. Silver bullion & green leather knot is attached. Black enameled iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows original factory polish. Hilt shows light wear overall, as does the knot. Scabbard retains 85% of its original finish & has a slight bend. 2) LION HEAD. An excellent Army officer’s sword measuring 38” in length with a 31” blade. Blade is etched over half its length with various military & foliate motifs, including a 6 1/2” panel with a blued background that reads “2.KGL. SACHS. ULANEN=REGT. NO 18.” There is a 7” panel on the opposite side with Uhlan troops charging on a blued field. The ricasso is unmarked. Gilded brass hilt with German eagle & party symbol on the guard. Foliate embellished cross guard, quillon & knuckle bow. Lion’s head pommel with red eyes. Foliate decorated backstrap & oak leaf decorated ferrule. Black enameled iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows original factory polish. Hilt shows light wear overall. Scabbard retains 95% of its original finish. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox.
