1) A superb early WWII M1 helmet with a front seam and fixed bails. The exterior has a dark green, lightly sanded, painted finish with a silver oak leaf, denoting a lieutenant colonel, attached to the front. The rear of the helmet has a 3 1/4" x 1" white-painted stripe. The original period chinstrap is worn on the rear of the helmet. The original period liner also has a white-painted oak leaf on the front and retains its small leather chinstrap. CONDITION: the helmet retains most of its original finish, and the silver oak leaf has a pleasing, tarnished patina. The chinstrap is worn but complete. The liner is also worn but complete, and there is some mildew on the leather that will likely easily clean. 2) A fine WWII M1 helmet with a front seam and swivel bails. The helmet has a dark field green-painted finish with a staff sergeant's insignia painted in white on the front. The helmet retains an original period khaki cotton chinstrap. This helmet also has an original period liner, with the small leather liner chinstrap intact. CONDITION: helmet finish is about 80%, with some oxidation at the crown. Insignia is worn but visible. Liner and chinstrap show expected wear. (02-23382-3/BF). $600-900.
