TYPE GAME GUN. Cal. 20 Ga., 3". S# 6402 (1890). The 28" dovetailed barrels are engraved "Charles Lancaster 151 New Bond St. London. Patent Breechloading Hammerless Gun 2" on game rib. Barrel flats are stamped with London black powder proofs for 20 Ga. Spring cocking self opening boxlock type action features automatic safety and double triggers. This action is one of the variants designed by Frederick Beesley and used by Lancaster. Most were very difficult to close thus the "wristbreaker" moniker. Action engraved with near full coverage, well cut shaded scroll and maker's name on both sides. Trigger plate engraved "Patent Block" "Safety". Trigger guard with scroll on bow has S# on tang. Straight grip buttstock of attractively marbled and lightly figured European walnut measures 14 1/4" over checkered wood butt and features usual checkering, drop points and vacant silver oval. Matching splinter forend has sugartong release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .628. R .628. Restriction: L .003 (IC). R .003 (IC). Wall thickness: L .026. R .025. STOCK: DAH: 1 3/4". DAC: 1 3/8". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14 1/4". WEIGHT: 5 lb. 5 oz. CONDITION: good as mostly refinished. Barrels retaining nearly all of a reblack. Action cleaned to silver gray. Engraving remains good. Stocks with heavy oil refinish with some later marks. Checkering worn almost smooth. Bores are shiny with scattered pits and large number of minor dents. Barrels are on face, action is tight.
