Cal. 20 Ga., 2 1/2". S# 2456 (1873). Converted from a 500 BPE double rifle; the 28" bbls. have been bored out and rechambered. Stippled top rib has sight slots filled. Rib engraved "H. HOLLAND 98 NEW BOND STREET LONDON". Bbl. flats stamped with London black powder proofs for 39 bore and with serial numbers. Round body Jones underlever action fitted with peninsula back spring locks with round body high spurred serpentine non rebounding hammers. Back sliding stalking safeties are present. Action and locks engraved with 80% coverage well cut shaded scroll. This scroll surrounds game scenes on lockplates with sitting tiger on left and prowling tiger on right. "H. Holland" is above each scene. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Steel capped pistol grip buttstock of plain European walnut measures 14 3/8" over checkered wood butt. Point pattern checkering is at grip. A sling eye has been removed from toeline. Matching splinter forend with shaped metal tip attaches to bbls. with captive side bolt through oval engraved steel escutcheons. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS.: Bore Diameter: R: .613", L: .616". Restrictions: R: .009" (IC), L: .017" (MOD) . Minimum Wall Thickness: R: .047", L: .045". STOCK: DAH: 1 3/8". DAC: 1 7/8". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14 3/8". WEIGHT: 7 lbs. 0 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: comes with a vintage leather case with brass corners. Central brass medallion on top engraved "56. DORCHESTER TERRACE" "S.G. HOLLAND" "LONDON". Interior is lined in purple cloth and has original Holland & Holland label in lid. Bottom compartment is newly configured for this gun and contains a pair of Holland & Holland snap caps, unmarked square oil bottle and 2 piece rosewood and brass cleaning rod with short handle. CONDITION: good as refurbished. Bbls. are polished and ready for reblack. Action and lockplates show cleaning presently pewter gray overall. Good quality replacement buttstock retains over 90% of its original oil finish with some marks and scratches. Checkering lightly worn. Forend is refinished to match. Checkering has been recut. Bores are bright and shiny. Action is tight. Locks are fine. Safeties work. Case leather is dark, has been conserved. Newer straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is very fine. Old label is quite clean but does have one rub through. Accessories are good. Handle of cleaning rod does not fit bottom section. (01-20835/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
