"CUMBERLAND". Cal. 78. NSN. Bbl. 42". No discernible proofs at breech end & has been converted from percussion. Replacement lock in original flint configuration is engraved "HENSHAW" in front of serpentine cock. Lock also features bridled frizzen & feather spring w/ flame finial. Late style 2nd model stock appears to be made of oak, is pinned to bbl. Features raised beavertail around bbl. tang, "hand rail" comb & moderate palm swell. Musket is brass mounted w/ relief cast trigger guard w/ bud finial & rounded sideplate w/out extension. Front ramrod pipe is of heavy flared type. Grip escutcheon is unmarked as is buttplate. Left side of stock on comb is deeply branded "CUMBERLAND" over "XIX". There are inspectors markings behind trigger guard tang on sideplate & butt of stock. The number "17" is carved into bottom of stock beside trigger guard finial. CONDITION: bbl. cleaned & refinished to brown over very deep pitted surface. Replacement lock is fitted w/ new main & sear spring & has new internal screws. Top jaw & screw are replaced. Stock w/ old oil refinish & dark brown/black stain is basically sound but w/ lg. replacement piece at toe, repaired crack through wrist, epoxy repairs through bbl. mounting pins & last 9" of bbl. channel replaced or repaired along w/ cap. There are other areas of epoxy in fill behind palm swell & along ramrod channel. Rusted bore, lock operable. (01-20139/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,750-2,500.
