1) SCOTTISH. Overall length: 39". Blade length: 32". A nice example of a Victorian era basket hilt broad sword. Dbl. edged blade w/ 2 narrow fullers. Blade is etched over 2/3 its length w/ various patriotic & foliate motifs. Heavy steel basket hilt in the Scottish manner. Basket is lined w/ red felt faced leather bound in light blue cotton. There is a faded red tassel at the lobed, mushroom shaped pommel. Wire wrapped, brown leather grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows a few areas of light oxidation. Hilt shows light wear overall.
2) BROADSWORD. Overall length: 35". Blade length: 29". A fine early European broadsword w/ a plain, elliptical blade. Iron 7 1/2" crossguard w/ lobed ends & a ring handguard. Iron ferrule & rounded pommel. Black finished wood grip. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray cleaned finish w/ light pitting throughout. Hilt has a similar patina. Grip does show age but may be an early replacement.
3) SHORTSWORD. Overall length: 24 3/4". Blade length: 19 7/8". This interesting early sword could be a short sword for artillery, a cutlass for shipboard use or even a long belt knife. The plain blade has a raised medial ridge. Simple iron guard & knuckle bow. Reeded wood grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a clean, medium gray peppered finish. Hilt has a medium gray, smooth, cleaned finish w/ very light pitting. Grip shows light to moderate wear. (02-16673-25/BF). $1,000-1,600.
