RIFLE. Cal. 38-55. S# 837. Bbl. 26" octagon. Replacement globe front sight, original sporting rear sight, with combination tang sight. Full length mag. tube. Blue finish with case colored hammer and lever. Forearm and hard rubber capped pistol grip walnut stock of XXX fancy walnut with crescent steel buttplate. Left inside of lower tang is marked with assembly # "20" followed by wood grade marking "XXX". Top tang channel of stock has matching assembly # "20". Toeline of stock and forearm cap have Winchester sling eyes. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Winchester factory letter stating: "Type: Rifle/ Caliber: .38/55/ Barrel Type: Octagon/ Trigger: Plain/ Checkered stock, Pistol grip/ Sights: Lyman front and rear/ Screw-eyes/ Received in warehouse on December 20, 1894/ Shipped from warehouse on January 16, 1895, Order number 3388/ Repair and Return on January 03, 1913, Order number 45513/ Repair and Return on December 07, 1914, Order number 61870". CONDITION: bbl. and mag. tube retain 70% lightly faded blue showing carry and edge wear with small dark spots. Action has 50% dull blue fading to gray in carry areas. Sides of lever and hammer have faint traces of case colors remaining in protected areas. Stock has light coat of added finish over wear and chips with scratches and dents. Checkering shows substantial wear. Stock has a small repaired chip right of the top tang. Sound mechanics. Bore retains strong rifling. (01-27970/DS). ANTIQUE. $8,000-12,000.
